Asha mesmerises Kashiites with her popular numbers

Iconic playback singer Asha Bhosle mesmerised Kashiites with her soulful renditions on Sunday night, with the shimmering Ganga in the backdrop making the event a complete bliss.

Presenting popular numbers like ‘prem me tohare aise padi hu’; ‘chura liya hai tumne jo dil ko’ and ‘jhumka gira re Bareli ke bazaar me’, Asha got the audience swaying to her lilting songs and leaving them asking for more.

The performance was part of the ongoing Sur Ganga programme at Bhainsasur Ghat here.

Asha also shared some lighter moments with Padma Vibhushan classical vocalist Girija Devi, who also performed at the event.

While Girija Devi presented a dushala (shawl) to Asha, mayor Ramgopal Mohale and state minister Neelkanth Tiwari honoured her.

Sur Ganga is a month long event organized by Varanasi Nagar Nigam to celebrate the city being placed in the UNESCO Creative City network.

On Monday Asha offered prayers to at Kashi Vishwanth temple.

Later speaking to newspersons, she praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and extended support to Sonu Nigam, who is embroiled in a controversy over his tweet on loudspeaker use for ‘azaan’.

Commissioner Nitin Ramesh Gokarn was also present at the temple during her visit. On behalf of the temple administration, the commissioner presented her an angvastram, rudraksh mala and prasad.

“This is my first visit to Kashi. After offering prayers to Baba Vishwanath, I am overwhelmed with joy,” she said. She also visited some ghats and lauded the cleanliness there.

Adding some thrill to her Varanasi visit, Asha did some boating too.
