The condition of athlete Arunima ‘Sonu’ Sinha has turned serious after an operation was conducted on her at Lucknow’s CSMMU hospital.
Infection is spreading fast in her body and the doctors are doing their best to avoid the development of septicemia. Sonu, 25, had lost her left leg after being pushed off a train by miscreants in Bareilly on April 11. She was shifted to Lucknow from Bareilly on Saturday.
On Sunday, the doctors at Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical Institute (CSMMU) had conducted the operation to remove infected and dead tissues from Sonu’s amputated left leg.
She was also given four units of blood, as her haemoglobin level was very low.
"Her condition is serious, but stable as of now," said Dr SN Sankhwar, the chief medical superintendent of the hospital. The doctors are not sure what caused the infection. She might have contracted it while being brought from Bareilly, a doctor said.
