State BJP president Surya Pratap Shahi led a ‘nyay yatra’ from the party office to the CBI office on Nawal Kishore Road, to protest against the misuse of the country’s premier investigating agency by the Congress. Attacking the Congress for using the CBI to target the Gujarat government, he asked, “Amit Shah, the former home minister of Gujarat, has been arrested by the CBI for getting Sohrabuddin, a criminal, killed in a police encounter. But why is the CBI not acting against the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh, though the apex court had asked the CBI to probe the role of three state governments in the encounter.”
In their memorandum faxed to the Prime Minister, the BJP leaders have sought a reply to their query: “Were not Sohrabuddin and Ishrat Jahan, killed in an encounter? Were they not criminals?” The party is also up in arms against forced religious conversions.
“These conversions, carried out primarily by Christian missionaries, are done fraudulently by keeping the youths in the dark. Mahatma Gandhi and Baba Saheb Ambedkar, too, were against forced conversions,” HN Dixit, BJP MLC, said in the Vidhan Parishad on Friday. The BJP demanded a discussion on the issue in the House. In another development, Shahi urged the youths to come forward and take to the streets to attract the attention of the government if they saw some injustice being perpetrated on the people. While welcoming the newly appointed state youth wing president Harish Dwivedi at the party office on Friday, he exhorted the youths to join the BJP.
