Police on Monday filed cases against BSP MLA Sushil Singh and four others, including Brijesh Singh, undergoing jail term on charges of murder, for allegedly attempting to kill a person in Varanasi.

"The FIR has been lodged by Sudhir Singh against Brijesh Singh, Sushil Singh, Tribhuvan Singh, Narendra alias Mama and Ajay Singh alias Khalnayak for attempting to kill him," Additional Director General, Law and Order Brijlal told reporters in Lucknow.

Sudhir in his FIR claimed that the BSP MLA and his aides fired at him on Sunday night when he was passing from Sankatmochan Mandir area, Brijlal said.

While a case was filed against 120B (conspiracy) against Brijesh Singh, others were booked under section 307 (attempt to murder), Criminal Law Amendment Act and other sections of IPC, he said.

Old rivalry was stated to be the motive behind the incident.
