Cold claims eight lives in UP

The cold wave sweeping Uttar Pradesh has claimed the lives of eight persons over the past two days, taking the toll in the state to 10, official sources said in Lucknow on Wednesday.

While five deaths were reported from Jaunpur, two were reported from Mathura and one each from Lucknow, Deoria and Barabanki.

With rain and thundershowers in some parts of the state, the mercury has plummeted in many parts of the state.

In Lucknow, the day temperature was 21.2 degree Celsius, which was five degree Celsius below normal.

The MET department has predicted cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thunder shower in some parts of the state today.
