A day after altering IPC sections in the death of Bharatiya Janata Party city youth wing president’s wife to that of murder, police on Tuesday said it appeared as if the motive behind the killing was hatred and the assailant knew the victim.

Manisha Singh, 30, wife of BJP leader Vinay Pratap Singh was found murdered inside her Hanumant Nagar residence in Madiaon on Sunday night. She had three gunshots on her bodyone from point blank range on the forehead, the second in the stomach and third on the back.

On Monday, police had said a family dispute may have been the reason behind the murder.

“The assailant’s way of killing Manisha suggests hatred towards her. The assailants surely had some issues with her because of which they shot her thrice,” said a police officer supervising the probe. He said the victim would have died after a single shot at the forehea d but the killer shot her twice again in the stomach and the back.

The police official also said there was no forced entry in the house and some eatables were found on the table in the drawing room. Besides, the victim’s body was found in the bathroom. He said these things suggest the assailant was familiar to the victim; had planned the murder beforehand and executed it when Manisha was alone in the house.

However, the cop said the probe so far had not confirmed the specific reason because of which someone could have so much hatred for Manisha that it would lead to murder.

“Several points have come up in relation to the victim’s family and relatives during the probe. We are verifying all the points one by one before we reach any conclusion,” he added.

SSP J Ravindra Gaur too admitted, “Primary leads are pointing towards hatred as the intent behind the murder. Some details narrated by her family members also turned out to be contradictory. We, however, are working on the case and will soon crack it.”

On Sunday, Manisha’s brother Amit, who lives in the same house, was the first to sense the tragedy when he called up his sister for some work but got no response. As Manisha’s husband and son were out of the house, Amit got suspicious and rushed home, where he found Manisha’s bullet-ridden body in the bathroom.
