The Allahabad High Court on monday ordered that Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh's 'Z' category security cover be extended by another 15 days and directed him to move the Uttar Pradesh government for a fresh decision on the issue.
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court of Justices Sanjay Mishra and Rajeev Sharma passed the order while disposing of a petition filed by Singh seeking a direction to the Uttar Pradesh government not to withdraw his 'Z' category security cover.
The court directed the SP General Secretary to make a representation to the state government narrating the threat perception to him in a week's time.
The state government would issue a fresh order on the representation after taking inputs from various intelligence agencies and in the light of the guidelines issued by the Allahabad High Court in an earlier case within a week's time, the court said.
Till then, the 'Z' category security cover to Singh would continue, it said.
The court passed a similar order on another petition filed by the Samajwadi Party MP Akshay Pratap Singh.
The security cover of several senior SP and BJP leaders had been downgraded by the Mayawati government.
