Three persons, including an undergraduate student, landed in police net on Thursday for allegedly creating a fake profile of a senior IPS officer Navniet Sakera on a social networking site and tagging objectionable contents to others using the same profile. The police said the student had created the profile and maligned the IPS officer’s image while two others were arrested for manhandling cops in a bid to free the accused.
Surendra Katiyar, inspector of Gautampalli police station, told mediapersons that the trio was arrested after registering an FIR against them in the matter. He said the accused were identified as a Nilmatha resident Abhay Singh Chauhan, his friend Mohit Chauhan and their common friend Mukesh Mishra, who is associated to a political party.
Katiyar said Abhay Singh Chauhan, who is pursuing graduation from a city degree college, had created the fake profile. He said probe into the matter was initiated when some of the contact persons in the profile informed the IPS officer about it.
He said the IPS officer them came to know about the fake profile created in his name around four-five days ago.
The inspector said the accused was traced after the location of his mobile and computer system through which he often used to update the contents on the profile, were tracked. He said the accused was then arrested after being questioned.
Katiyar said, “His two friends Mohit Chauhan and Mukesh Mishra too turned up before police and entered into a scuffle with the police team probing the matter.
The duo was also later arrested for causing hindrance in the government work and manhandling the cops.” The motive behind the accused for creating fake profile of the IPS officers is still not confirmed and further probe in the matter is on, he added.
