Two wanted dacoits accused of killing six police personnel of an STF team in 2007 and involved in several cases of murder, were arrested after an encounter in Chitrakoot district on Saturday.

Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested Deepak Patel and Shiv Naresh Patel. They were wanted in several cases of abduction, murder and extortion, ADGP (law and order) Brij Lal told reporters in Lucknow .

"In 2007, Deepak gang attacked an STF team in Karvi with sophisticated weapons, in which seven persons including six police personnel were killed. Some policemen were also injured in the incident," the police officer said.

Deepak and Shiv, who carried a cash reward of 65,000 each on their head, were arrested this morning near Lokharia village in Chitrakoot district. Sophisticated weapons, including spring field rifle, and 9 mm pistol were recovered from their possession.

The ADGP said, Deepak had taken control of the gang last year after his brother Ambika Patel alias Thokia was gunned down by the STF. The team was operating in Madhya Pradesh also.

Lal claimed that rifle and pistol recovered on Saturday were used in the attack on STF team.
