A youth hacked his sister to death with a chopper when she refused to give him a new mobile phone in a Chinhat village on Saturday morning. Police said the youth was mentally disturbed and had been taken into custody for further probe.
An FIR of murder has been registered in the case.
The incident took place when the accused, Pramod Gautam alias Nanha, along with his mother Alka Devi, had come to visit his sister Sunita Gautam, 25, and her husband Kamlesh Gautam in Chinhat’s Juggaur village on Saturday. He started demanding a phone from Sunita after seeing a brand new handset with her and even entered into an argument with her husband.
Kamlesh told the police that Pramod got irked when Sunita refused to give him the new handset. He said Pramod snatched the handset from her and attacked her with a chopper kept in the kitchen.
“Pramod even attacked us when my mother Nanhi Devi and I rushed to rescue Sunita. We saved ourselves by locking the main door. However, Sunita was trapped inside and he repeatedly attacked her with the chopper, causing injuries on her head and face. He fled, leaving her bleeding profusely on the floor.”
Kamlesh said he rushed Sunita to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where she succumbed during treatment.
Police later arrested the accused from his relative’s place and were further quizzing him about the incident. District police spokesman Alok Pathak said the mental condition of the accused was not good and he had been sent for medical examination.
