An elderly couple were found dead with their throats slit open at their posh Vipul Khand locality residence in Gomti Nagar on Sunday evening.
Identified as 61-year-old RN Mehra, who had retired as cashier of Dena Bank last year, and his wife Lata, 58, a labour enforcement officer in deputy labour commissioner's office in Haidergarh, Barabanki, the couple used to live alone.
Though the ransacked state of the house indicated at a 'roband-kill' incident, police are not ruling out the possibility of an 'insider's-job' since two glasses of water and a bowl of sweets were also found on the table of the drawing room where the bodies were discovered. The couple, police said, had been repeatedly stabbed.
While Lata's body was found on the sofa, Mehra was found on the floor. Their only daughter Gunjan, who is employed with HCL and lives in Delhi, alerted a Gomti Nagar based relative Rakesh Khatri, when her parents didn't answer her phone call despite repeated attempts.
On Gunjan's insistence, Khatri visited the Mehra house after which the police were informed. Finger print experts apart from a dog squad were also pressed into service immediately but till the time of going to the press the police had no clear leads in the twin murder case.
