Ensure effective policing to maintain peace in UP: Akhilesh

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday urged the senior officers of the UP Police to ensure effective policing to maintain peace in Uttar Pradesh.

Emphasising on the need to equip police with modern techniques due to the changing nature of crime, the chief minister made several announcements, including state-of-the art control rooms in Lucknow, Ghaziabad and Allahabad.

While speaking on the occasion of Police Smriti Diwas (Police Commemoration Day) here at the Reserve Police Lines in Mahanagar, he said a hi-tech control room had already been inaugurated in Kanpur recently while the work on the control room in Lucknow was in final stages.

He asked the of ficers to design improved police training schedules at the time of recruitment and refresher courses for those already in the job.

The chief minister said the training should be based according to the changing trends in crime, so that cops could deal with the new-generation crime effectively.

The chief minister said the concept of the modern control rooms would be considered a success if it improves the police response time and effectiveness in curbing crime.

He said that to give more promotion avenues to policemen, new posts of assistant sub-inspectors (ASI) would be created while more sub-inspectors and inspectors would be recruited for better policing.

Yadav also announced close user group (CUG) mobile numbers for all sub-inspectors in the state.

The chief minister emphasised that the police officers must give preference to women cops for the postings at modern control rooms.

He announced construction of visitors’ room and transit hostels for police personnel at police stations.

Besides, the process of setting up security police lines was already in the pipeline, he added.

He said the constables and head constables, who were already in the job, would have extended age limit of five years during fresh recruitments of sub-inspectors.

Meal allowance for police constables and non-gazetted officers was also announced on the occasion.
