The former State Youth Congress president Nadim Ashraf Jaisi on Thursday joined the BSP.
Jaisi, who was YC(I) president for five years, was removed from the post in January last. His family had been close to Nehru-Gandhi family.
Jaisi told Hindustan Times on Thursday that he was feeling suffocated in the Congress, as there was no respect to grassroots workers. Jaisi said he tried to meet the Congress leaders, including Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi, to explain him the prevailing situation in the party in Rae Bareli-Sultanpur region.
But he was not allowed to meet. He said workers were being publically humiliated in the party. Jaisi also flayed Rahul Gandhi for issuing controversial statements.
The BSP chief Mayawati, while welcoming him into the party, has asked him to concentrate on Amethi and Rae Bareli. Jaisi said he would also be visiting Fatehpur (Barabanki) to campaign against the Congress candidate PL Punia.
He said that Jais Nagar Panchayat chief Rajendra Kumar, 16 panchayat members and large numbers of Pradhans also joined BSP with him. Nadim Ashraf belongs to famous Sufi family of Jaisi, which has considerable influence in Tiloi, Gauriganj, Amethi and Jagdishpur assembly constituencies.
