Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Bikram Singh was in the state capital for a brief visit to the Central Command headquarters in Lucknow on Monday.
Lt-Gen Anil Chait, GOCin-C, Central Command briefed the COAS on the operational preparedness of the Army.
Later, Gen Singh interacted with senior functionaries after reviewing training and logistic aspects in the command theatre.
He addressed the officers of the station on contemporary challenges facing the Army, collective efforts required in overcoming these and the requirement of carrying forward the core values of honesty, truthfulness, sincerity, commitment and dedication to the organisation.
According to a Defence press communiqué, he also emphasised the need to return to the basics of soldiering with emphasis on discipline and esprit-de-corps - a common spirit of comradeship, enthusiasm, and devotion to a cause among the members of a group.
“He reiterated the need to ensure financial probity, inclusive decision-making through collective wisdom, austerity and buddy system. The Army chief also emphasised on valuebased leadership, as per the legacy of the Indian Army and the requirement of regular interaction with veterans to imbibe the rich ethos of our predecessors,” it said.
During his visit to the veterans cell, the COAS lauded the efforts of Central Command for launching Ex-Servicemen Helpline and Desh Sewa programme.
