The police have beefed up security across the state capital apprehending violent protests by extremist organisations on Thursday (Valentine’s Day). Shiv Sena activists had attacked some young couples after barging into a restaurant in Muzaffarnagar two days ago.

The Women Powerline (1090) would be entertaining emergency complaints related to misbehaviour with women and girls on V-Day. The police control room (100) has also been sensitised to entertain complaints of the fair sex on priority.

“The police station in-charges, especially of east and trans-Gomti regions that have the maximum number of malls, restaurants and parks, have already been asked to beef up security. There are special arrangements for security in Hazratganj, Gomti Nagar, Indira Nagar, Mahanagar and Aliganj,” said J Ravindra Goud, SSP.

He said at least a dozen mobile police teams have been constituted, which would be patrolling the city to avert any untoward incident. Goud said the police are committed to provide safe and secure atmosphere to everybody and obscenity would not be allowed at any cost.

The SSP said vigilance would also be kept at girls’ colleges and schools to check eve-teasing incidents. Women cops would be deployed at such places where such incidents are apprehended and the trouble-makers would be dealt with strictly.

“The 1090 service would also act as an emergency number for the day and girls can call up in case of any problem,” said deputy inspector general (DIG), Lucknow Range, Navniet Sekera, who also heads the Women Powerline.

He said directives have been issued to all six districts under the Lucknow range to step up vigil on Valentine’s Day. He said the activists of extremist organisations have also been warned against any kind of moral policing.
