Two-wheeler riders without helmets will soon be denied fuel at petrol pumps in Uttar Pradesh. State transport minister Raja Mahendra Aridaman Singh issued the order on Tuesday.
Singh also made it mandatory for transport vehicles to have a reflector tape on them.
“Police and transport department officials should ensure, with the help of petrol pump owners, that petrol is not given to those who are without helmets,” Singh said in his order.
He also made an appeal to parents not to allow their wards to ply two-wheelers without helmet.
Expressing concern over rise in deaths due to road accidents, the minister also asked officers that vehicles of all types, especially buses, trucks and tractor trolleys necessarily had reflective tape, backlight and reflectors fitted on them.
He asked transport commissioner Alok Kumar to launch a statewide drive to challan vehicles found without these essential gears.
