Getting super speciality service in the state capital is set to become easier in the coming days.

Apart from the super speciality block at the Balrampur hospital, another one will come up at Civil Hospital and the third is proposed at Lohia Hospital, Gomti Nagar.

As planned, the Balrampur super speciality block will primarily focus on three departments: urology, neurology and neuro-surgery, while the one coming up at Civil hospital will offer super speciality care for children. A super speciality paediatric unit will start here soon.

“The aim is to get those people admitted here who can not be treated at a general set-up. For this reason, doctors who have taken speciality training sponsored by the state government will be deployed at these centres,” said a senior health official involved in the planning of these super speciality centres.

So those patients whom the doctor think fit for super speciality service will be referred to these centres.

“Not everyone or anyone can be admitted here, but only those who cannot be treated in a general set-up,” said the official.

Developting super speciality medical service along with the general hospitals has twin advantages, say experts.

First, it will relieve patients from running from one place to another and secondly it will reduce load from the centres such as PGI and RMLIMS.

“PGI and RMLIMS are already getting hundreds of patients everyday. If super speciality centres are developed on the campus of hospitals such as Balrampur and Civil, it will help keep the patient load under control at PGI and RMLIMS,” said Dr PK Gupta, senior member Indian Medical Association.
