Arvind Kejriwal-led India Against Corruption (IAC) finally got permission to hold a rally at the UP Housing Development department in Farrukhabad on November 1. The permission was granted after IAC activists demonstrated in front of the city magistrate's office.
"We have got the permission. After the denial reports were flashed in the media, the city magistrate called our activists in Farukhabad and handed over the permission letter," Sanjay Singh, IAC core committee member told HT. IAC Farukhabad convenor Laxman Singh along with his associates demonstrated in front of the magistrate's office following which the permission was granted, he added.
Earlier, district administration had denied permission to the IAC to hold a rally in Farukhabad, Lok Sabha constituency of Union law minister Salman Khurshid.
In fact, Sanjay Singh informed newsmen on Saturday morning about the denial of permission during a press conference at India Coffee House in Lucknow. Singh also said during the conference that Arvind Kejriwal's programme would be held in the home district of Khurshid come what may, even if they had to land in jail.
IAC had also written a letter to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav requesting to give permission for Kejriwal's programme in Farrukhabad.
Arvind Kejriwal, along with other IAC activists is scheduled to hold a public meeting against the law minister over the alleged misappropriation of funds by the trust that he (law minister) heads. Salman Khurshid had earlier dared Kejriwal to stage a protest in Farrukhabad.
