IMS-BHU neurologist, colleagues act in film on motor neuron disease

A neurologist, who developed the Har Har Mahadev App to block access to pornographic websites, and his colleagues have acted in an 18-minute film to motivate medical scientists to find a cure to the deadly motor neuron disease that makes the body muscles contract for specific work.

Prof VN Mishra and his other colleagues work in the department of neurology at Institute of Medical Science-Banaras Hindu University (IMS-BHU).

Their film is titled ‘The Dying Man and His Dying City’. It shows how the disease affects a patient and eventually and takes his life.

Prof Mishra said, “Motor neuron disease or MND is deadly. There is no cure for it. Scientists, neurologists, pharmacologists and those who are working in the field of medical science should start extensive research in the direction of finding a cure for the disease.”

He said the disease was also found is certain pockets across eastern UP and the southern part of the country.

Motor neuron disease can be of over 30 types.

Once the disease progresses, it affects the muscles normally used for swallowing and breathing.

Prof Mishra said neurologists should try to find out the cause of the disease and its cure.
