For the first time in Uttar Pradesh, women bodybuilders will flex their muscles. And this would happen in Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Mulayam Singh Yadav’s ancestral village Saifai in Etawah district on Sunday at ‘Mr UP Saifai Classic Bodybuilding Championship 2014’.

The village had been host to many a wrestling match and tournament, but is hosting a bodybuilding show for the first time.

Sonia Mitra, 19, and Babita Singh, 35, will be seen in a guest appreance along with several top men bodybuilders at the main pandal of the 17th annual Ranvir Singh Memorial Saifai Festival.

It will be over two hour show on the stage where Sonia, Babita will pose their muscles along with the first Mr Universe from India, Premchand Degra, first silver medalist from India in any 60 plus World bodybuilding championship, Rajender Saxena from Muzaffarnagar, a Mr World gold medalist Sangram Caugle, a Mr World silver medalist Bobby Singh.

“All these men and two women will be the guest posers at the championship while nearly 100 from rural and urban areas will contest for ‘Mr UP Saifai Classic titles’,” says Sajid Ahmed Quershi of Fusion Fitness, Mahanagar, Lucknow. Fusion Fitness is the host of the championship that will be judged by a panel of Indian Bodybuilding Federation.

Sajid, himself a bodybuilder, has been Mr UP thrice and won medals in national championships as well.

Sajid says: “Body building events have been held many times in the state but it is the first time that women posers will participate. Sonia Mitra won the gold at the recent held women’s world championship in Mumbai while Babita won silver.”

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav will be the chief guest at the show.

While the bodybuilding show will be held in the evening, early in the day the Indian Gramin Cricket League will begin to promote cricket in rural areas. Only rural cricketers will participate in the event where a total of 18 teams from different states like Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, UP, West Bengal and Uttarakhand will feature. The tournament will end on January 7. The winners will get a trophy and cash prize. IGCL selects cricketers from a talent hunts in rural areas.

Inaugural ceremony will be as dazzling as the original IPL. Stars like Shilpa Rao, Mandira Bedi, Toshi Sabri, and rapper Badshah will be present.
