Lawyers on Monday took to the streets here to protest shifting of Sadar tehsil, resulting in a clash with police which left several persons from both the sides injured.
According to police, they had to use force to disperse the lawyers who were agitating over the shifting of Sadar tehsil to Rajswakarmi training centre in Chinhat area here on Sunday night, resulting in a clash which left some lawyers and policemen injured.
Nayanraj Singh Rathore of Royal Bar Association, who spearheaded the agitation, claimed that tehsil has been shifted clandestinely despite the matter pending in the court.
"The lawyers who saw the documents being shifted in trucks were protesting in a peaceful manner but police resorted to barbaric lathicharge," Rathore alleged, adding that the lawyers have now gone on indefinite work boycott and help of other lawyers will also be taken.
BJP and Congress condemned the police action on lawyers.
BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak and Congress spokesman Siddhartpriya Srivastava, in separate statements, condemned the police action and said that government should have taken them into confidence before shifting the tehsil.
Lawyers were protesting against the Sadar tehsil being shifted to Chinhat area of the state capital on Sunday night although it was holiday due to Sunday.
