The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) undertook an innovative environmental campaign at its project sites to mark World Environment Day on June 5.
Awareness and training activities were organised for site personnel to involve them in the effort to keep the environment clean and green in the run up to the occasion, from June 1 to 5.
LMRC managing director Kumar Keshav visited metro construction sites to see the overall preparedness.
Keshav said everyone had to make a contribution to protect the environment, which was why he had arranged a mass level housekeeping campaign that would go a long way in sprucing up the environment at the construction sites of the metro.
“Workers at the project sites are being trained to segregate waste. They are also being taught about various other environmental issues,” Keshav said.
At the same time, the Lucknow Metro is also imparting regular coaching on safety measures to all workers and engineers, like ensuring that they receive training on the use of fall arrestor, erection of pier cap and u-girder, ergonomical hazards and precautions, gas cutting and wielding work, scaffold construction and other things.
Till date, a total of 187 induction training programmes on safety and environmental awareness have been held for 6,158 workers.
These activities are a part of Lucknow Metro’s green initiative, said Kumar Keshav, adding, “From the day of its inception, LMRC has been planning to provide an environment-friendly mass rapid transport system for the public.”
