Locals blocked the road and staged protests after a 15-year-old boy was crushed to death by a speeding truck on ring road in Thakurganj on Wednesday night. The driver fled after the accident. Police registered an FIR in the matter and seized the truck.
The protests ended after a local policeman assured the residents that the driver would be arrested and recommendation for ex-gratia for the family would be sent to senior authorities.
The accident occurred when the deceased, Pranshu Chaurasiya, had gone to purchase vegetable from a nearby market on ring road. Eyewitnesses said the boy was hit from behind when he was returning home on a bicycle from the market at around 8pm.
He was a Class 5 student at a private school.
The truck driver fled leaving the truck on the spot, as locals surrounded him after the accident. Angry residents then damaged the truck and blocked the road in protest, demanding the driver’s immediate arrest and the compensation for the family.
