A family of three was clubbed to death during sleep at a rented shop-cum-residence accommodation in Preeti Nagar locality in Madiaon, Lucknow.
The incident came to light on Wednesday when the neighbours complained of a foul smell from their room with the landlord, Qutub-u-deen. As the latter pulled up the shutters, he found the three lying dead on the floor. He immediately informed the police.
Cops said the injury marks suggested that the trio had been repeatedly hit with a heavy blunt object at least two days ago.
The deceased have been identified as Guddu (36), his wife Janaki (32) and their six year-old son Tarun. Guddu was a construction labourer, while his wife did tailoring at the rented room to run the household.
They hailed from Sitapur but rarely visited their native place. The family had been staying as tenant in the shop for the last two-and-half years.
The landlord told HT that there were no complaints against the family as the trio had limited interactions.
They paid Rs 600 rent every month on time. “They had no frequent visitors except one Rajesh Langda, a vegetable vendor, who Guddu introduced as his brother-in-law,” the landlord said.
Guddu, according to sources, had recently got Rs 2 lakh after selling of a piece of land at his native place.
Aliganj circle officer NP Singh said Langda was a suspect as he had been missing since the incident.
Singh said the police suspect that the trio was hit by the pedestal fan as its stem was stained with blood after impact signs.
The fingerprints experts had been called to collect samples from the fan.
He said the dog squad was also called but it was of no help. A team of crime branch is also working on the case, he added.
