Rathera village in Mainpuri district will have a woman ‘pradhan’ who is also a management graduate.
Poonam Yadav, an MBA, won by 592 votes on Sunday. Wife of a lawyer in Supreme Court, Poonam had contested election for pradhan post from a seat reserved for women.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Poonam said it was good that those who were well educated entered politics through grassroot level. “I would not make promises but would work for improving the condition in villages and would specifically stress on women empowerment,” Poonam said.
An admirer of Sonia Gandhi, Poonam said it was just the a beginning.
