Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi would be on a day’s visit to riot-hit areas of Muzaffarnagar on Monday.
The trip comes a day after chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s visit to the area. The Prime Minister would be visiting Shahpura and its adjoining areas to meet the affected people.
A massive security system has been put in place for the visit in the Muzaffarnagar-Shamli area.
IG RVishwakarma said a large security force had been deployed for the PM’s security.
While additional director general (security) OP Singh and other senior officers are camping out in Muzaffarnagar, the government has also deployed 42 companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary and three teams of the Anti-Terror Squad.
UPCC president Nirmal Khatri, meanwhile, has assailed the government for failing to control the violence quickly. In a statement, Khatri said even the government had not been able to provide assistance to the affected people at various relief centres. He also accused the ruling Samajwadi Party of being hand-in-glove with the BJP in vitiating the communal atmosphere in the state.
