The Congress and the Mayawati-led government may lock horns over the Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) Jagdishpur project in Amethi.
The District Administration, Sultanpur is going to slap a notice on SAIL asking it to pay the stamp duty of Rs 10.45 crore for buying the Malvika Steels in 2009. SAIL had acquired the ailing plant for its revival at the behest of Rahul Gandhi.
“We are serving a notice to get payment of Rs 10.45 crore on the purchase of Rs 209 crore,” said District Magistrate Sultanpur Shankar Lal Pandey.
“Senior district officers asked SAIL to stop work on Friday night demanding stamp duty of Rs 10.45 crore,” said UPCC chief spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh.
