Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday took British foreign secretary David Milliband and some other foreign guests to his constituency Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.
Gandhi and his guests reached the constituency in late afternoon and drove straight to Narainpur village in Rae Bareli. There was a surprise waiting for Milliband, when a group of children chanted “Welcome and a happy New Year” in greeting.
Later, Gandhi and Milliband talked to the media. Answering questions on his country’s views on the aftermath of the Mumbai attacks, Milliband said extraditing the accused to India was not legally possible.
He said since there had been a resurgence of the legal system in that country, Pakistan had been asked to bring the perpetrators of the attacks to justice.
Noting that Paksitan President Asif Ali Zardari himself was a victim of terrorism, he said now Pakistan should act against terrorism to improve its image.
On the Satyam scam, Gandhi said he did not think that it would have a lasting impact on India’s information technology industry. But the guilty had to be brought to books, he said.
