A minor girl was allegedly gangraped by two people in Badaun and her private parts mutilated, police said on Monday, reviving memories of a similar horror in Delhi in December 2012.
Though the incident occurred on June 23, family members lodged a complaint only on Sunday, police said, adding that three people-- the two alleged rapists and an accomplice-- have been arrested.
Police sources said medical tests on the 14-year-old girl confirmed sexual assault besides revealing mutilation of her private parts. One of her kidneys was also found to be swollen as a result of the vicious attack.
“Strict action will be ensured against the accused. The case will be probed thoroughly,” said RKS Rathore, Bareilly range director general of police, who inspected the crime spot at a sugarcane field and also called on the survivor.
Police said quoting the girl that she was waylaid by a youth when she was on her way to a shop in the posh Civil Lines colony.
The youth allegedly forced the girl on to the pillion seat of his bike with the help of his two accomplices and drove her to a sugarcane field, around two km away, where two of them raped her.
A farmer passing by the field saw the girl and rushed her home, police said, adding that she did not narrate the incident to her family-members initially.
Police added that the girl, who had slipped into depression, later narrated her ordeal to her sister who was called from Lucknow.
However, it was not clear when the family was aware of the incident and police are trying to find out why there was a delay in lodging the complaint.
