Gujarat chief minister and BJP campaign committee chief Narendra Modi will flag off the UP leg of his ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’ campaign by having a darshan of Lord Krishna next month.
After missing out on his Kumbh ( Allahabad ) and Ayodhya visits due to his busy schedule earlier, Modi has now consented to attend the BJP state working committee scheduled for September in Mathura, Vrindavan.
Party national chief Rajnath Singh, who played a key role in Modi’s elevation, too would be attending the state BJP meet, during which the party is expected to fine tune its blueprint to arrest its slide in the 80-MP strong UP.
The state holds the key to BJP’s and even Modi’s national ambitions.
The party’s UP co in-charge Rameshwar Chaurasia, who was present at a meeting in Lucknow on Wednesday when Modi’s plan to visit UP in September was made official, said the party was working hard to keep its cadres in UP in a battle-ready mode.
“That’s important as a discredited Congress-led UPA II government at the Centre is all set to concede the national political space to the Modii nspired BJP,” Chaurasia said.
Modi’s visit would coincide with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP’s) 84 kosi parikrama in Ayodhya that is set to begin from August 25 and would continue till September. While Ayodhya’s temple movement catapulted the BJP to power both in UP and the centre, the saffron brigade has always maintained that “Ayodhya was just the beginning.”
One of the most consistently raised slogans of the saffron brigade has been “Ayodhya toh jhanki hai, Kashi, Mathura baaki hai” (Ayodhya was just a trailer, for Kashi and Mathura are yet to be reclaimed).
The BJP’s previous state working committee meeting was held in Chitrakoot – a place associated with Lord Ram. Now, by turning to Mathura to hold the state working committee meet and getting Modi to attend it as well, is the BJP trying to signal a revival of its Hindutva plank that had taken a backseat as the party toyed briefly with ‘India shining’ – a campaign that boomeranged. The BJP has been out of power since the India Shining campaign of 2004.
