"Monsoon is expected to be normal this year. The currents are strong and the state would witness their rapid advancement," state met director JP Gupta told reporters on Saturday.

Light to moderate rains would be witnessed, particularly in the eastern districts of the state, including Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Faizabad, he said.

"There would be ample rains in Uttar Pradesh during the next three months," he added.

In state capital Lucknow, the skies on Saturday remained cloudy and the minimum temperature was recorded at 26.1 degrees Celsius, one degree below the average.
