A woman and her two-month-old baby sustained burn injuries in Aligarh on Saturday when two youths hurled acid on them over suspected inter-family dispute, police said.

The woman suffered severe burns along her shoulder to waist region, while the baby escaped with minor injuries, police said, adding both the accused have been arrested.

Stating that prima facie it appeared to be a case of inter-family dispute, SSP Rajesh Pande told HT the brother of the victim is currently serving a jail term on charges of eve teasing and kidnapping a sister of the accused.

The woman was attacked around 9am at Thakur Wali Gali in Bhujpura area of the city when she was on her way to a hospital with her baby. Some drops of the liquid also fell on the baby as the woman tried to resist her attackers.

Both mother and the child are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
