A criminal case was filed against Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and his supporters in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly barging into a police station and creating a ruckus, police said on Thursday.
On Tuesday over 100 BJP workers entered Patwai police station and disrupted official work.
"There were over 100 BJP workers who entered the police station. They blocked the road outside and locked the main gate of the station," Inspector NK Tyagi told IANS over telephone. Naqvi also joined the BJP workers after some time, he added.
A case has been lodged against Naqvi and his supporters under sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian penal code.
"Naqvi and his supporters have also been booked under section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act," Tyagi added.
