Senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad functionary Surendra Jain on Sunday asserted that the right wing organisation will not allow cow slaughter at any cost.
“We want a complete ban on eating beef. Since Hindus worship cows we will not allow it to be slaughtered,” said Jain, who is also the national spokesperson of the RSS affiliate outfit.
However, he clarified that his organisation doesn’t hold any grudge against non-vegetarians; neither does it want to force people to change their eating habits.
Talking to reporters in the state capital Jain said, “I admit that two-thirds of the Indian population, including Hindus, is non-vegetarian. But that doesn’t mean one necessarily has to kill and eat cows. It is a matter of faith for us.” The VHP leader added that since 1857, when cartridges greased with cow meat enraged Indians to the extent that they revolted against the British over the issue, cow has always been sacred to Hindus.
“Any attempt to hurt Hindu pride will be resisted. Since ancient times, sacrifices have been made to protect cows and hence no one should have any doubt on the issue,” Jain added.
Announcing the unit’s plan to set up cow protection shelters in all blocks of the country he also demanded that senior UP minister Azam Khan should be tried for sedition for writing to the United Nations on Dadri lynching.
