The UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) on Monday launched a new scheme ‘Sugam Sanyojan’ that simplifies the procedure for residential electricity connections upto 5 kw of load.
Under the new scheme the applicant will have to deposit only the connection cost and that too in 18 month installments and the department will bear the infrastructure cost (system loading charges).
To achieve the government’s target of 24X7 power to all by 2019, the corporation will also hold special camps to issue new power connections.
“Junior engineers have been asked to hold camps from 9 am to 5 pm in their areas every day to issue power connections as per the new scheme. They should also ensure that a connection is released within seven days of completion of formalities at a place where electricity pole already exists and within 30 days if the pole is to be erected,” energy minister, Shrikant Sharma said.
The department has also relaxed the requirement of documents that need to be submitted with the application. Now, aadhar card or voter ID card will serve the purpose of address proof while for a connection in a rented house, the applicant will have to furnish a consent letter by the house owner or a rent receipt. “If an applicant has no documents regarding address proof and ownership of the house, even then connection will not be denied to him and in such cases only prepaid connections will be released,” Sharma said.
Welcoming the new scheme, UP Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad president, Avadhesh Kumar Verma said it would help people get new electricity connections in hassle-free manner.
“UP electricity regulatory commission had recently provided for the deposit of the cost of new power connection upto 5 kw in 18 installments and now further simplification of the procedure by the UPPCL will encourage people especially those using katiyas to come in the legal network,” Verma said.
