As many as eight robbers held an SGPGIMS doctor and his wife hostage at their residence in Sahajpuram colony near IIM, on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday and decamped with cash and ornaments worth over Rs. 5 lakh.

Robbers first gagged both Dr Harish Kumar Singh and his wife Meena Singh and then tied them up. They then searched the entire house for about half-an-hour.
According to the victims, they heard a sound of somebody trying to break the latch of their door at 2.30 in the night.

Curious Dr Singh came out of his room only to find 8 miscreants entering the house from the main gate. The miscreants immediately caught hold of Dr Singh and started beating him up. Hearing his screams, Meena went to help her husband but she too was held up by the robbers who reportedly thrashed her as well. The robbers then gagged the couple and searched almost every corner of the house and walked away with Rs. 15,000 in cash and jewellery worth Rs. 5 lakh. After the robbers fled the couple somehow managed to free themselves and informed police.

IG homegaurd PK Mishra and circle officer Aliganj Vishal Pandey reached the spot. Finger print experts and sniffer dog were pressed into service. Sources said the robbers had done a recce of the victim’s house as during the loot they were heard asking about the house of a retired police officer who resides in the neighbourhood. Cops also recovered the yellow colour tape that was used to gag the victims.
