From mujras to pole dancing, Lucknow seems to have come of age. It seems to be the new in thing at most social dos in the city, especially private parties. Event managers said pole dancing is in demand this wedding season and party-lovers are ready to shell out any amount to get these dancers.
Sanjay Nigam of Moksh Event Management said: “People invite these dancers for non-traditional parties like pre-wedding bash, engagement parties, anniversaries and birthdays. Lucknow has a thing for Russian dancers and most of the time people are ready to flex their party dates to invite these dancers.”
Another hot favorite in the city of nawabs is belly dancing. People want Arabian themes to be recreated at parties and it’s said that a belly dancer visits Lucknow every week for one or the other party.
Nigam said 70 per cent people are particular about looks and costumes.
Another dance form that is picking up is shadow dance. The dance form has been in demand after the IIFA awards last year. Shadow dance is performed behind a screen, and the guests can see only the shadow performing.
All these dancers are foreign nationals and handsomely paid — anything between Rs 20,000 and to a lakh for five dances.
On Wednesday an event management company even organised a promotional party where pole dancers showcase new trends that party lovers can adopt this season.
