Police reaches out to locals in naxal-infested areas of UP

Making another move to reach out to the locals in the naxal infested areas, the Sonebhadra police have organised marriage of a surrendered naxalite's sister besides marrying off 101 other couples.

ADG Law and Order, Lucknow, Brij Lal said that in yet another move of community policing in the naxal infested areas to ensure that the locals join the mainstream, Superintendent of Police of Sonebhadra, Pritinder Singh on Tuesday organised wedding of Savita, sister of naxalite Bullu Pathari who had surrendered in 2002.

The 'kanya daan" was also performed by the SP and all arrangements were made by the local police, the ADG said.

Besides, the SP also organised the marriage of 101 couples belonging to Scheduled Castes and tribes, backwards and other such castes on Wednesday with the help of various social welfare organisations and businessmen.

All the 101 couples were presented various daily use items , clothes and ornaments, the ADG said adding that applications are being moved on behalf of these couples for helping them get the assistance of Rs 10,000 by the state social welfare department.

Earlier too in a similar move the local police had undertaken education, coaching and medical programmes in the area which all have had a very good impact, the ADG added.
