A property dealer Ram Narain Verma, who was missing since Tuesday evening, was murdered after being kidnapped by four persons from near his house over a dispute of Rs. 20 lakh. The police claimed to have solved the case on Wednesday, after the arrest of one person while three others involved in the crime were still at large.
The arrested accused, identified as Ashish Yadav, had along with three associates - Harish Chandra Yadav, Ram Bahadur Yadav and Kallu - allegedly murdered Verma who was demanding his Rs. 20 lakh back that he had given to them for purchase of land in Lucknow, said cops.
The deceased’s relative Yogeshwar had lodged an FIR of his disappearance and raised suspicion on the accused persons who took Verma along in a car on Tuesday night.
District police spokesman, Alok Pathak said, “Ashish Yadav was tracked down with the help of the car’s registration number and arrested while he had come to meet someone near Polytechnic crossing on Wednesday. ” Pathak said Ashish confessed that he and three others, took Verma along after assuring to return his money. The assailants allegedly strangulated the dealer to death after reaching a secluded spot in Rae Bareli and buried his body near a canal. Verma’s body was recovered after Ashish’s revelation.
Pathak said one of the accused, Harish Chandra was a historysheeter of Barabanki and got himself arrested by cancelling bail in a previous case registered against him after committing the crime while two others were still at large.
The city police would seek custody remand of Harish to further quiz him in the matter, he added.
