Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Shashi Bhushan Lal Susheel gets further relief on Wednesday after the hearing on his bail was deferred by court for eight more days.

He was released from the jail on interim bail on October 3 after he was arrested for alleged rape bid on board Lucknow Mail AC coach on October 1.

The district court set October 18 as the next date of hearing after defence counsel Anil Pratap Singh sought some more time to present the case before the court of the district judge KK Sharma.

The initial hearing was also held in the same court. Earlier, the district judge had given the interim bail to the IAS officer after prosecution demanded some time to prepare for argument when the defence counsel challenged charges of rape bid imposed on the IAS on October 3.

He had stated the rape bid seems to be impossible in the presence of several other copassengers on the train.

He also stated to the maximum there is the possibility of molestation attempt, which is bailable offence.

The case was shifted to the court of additional district judge (ADJ)-I SN Agnihotri for hearing on Wednesday.

Defence counsel Anil Pratap Singh told HT that the court of ADJ-I was prayed to extend the interim bail and transfer the case to the court of the district judge.

On October 1, the incident took place when the girl along with her mother was travelling in an AC II coach of Lucknow mail from Delhi to Lucknow.

The IAS officer also boarded the same coach from Ghaziabad and allegedly attempted rape with the girl when her mother had gone to a toilet.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) escort nabbed the IAS officer after the girl’s complaint. The matter was then handed over the Government Railway Police (GRP) after reaching here at Charbagh railway station.
