A second case was lodged against conman Ashok Jadeja on Wednesday for duping tribals of crores of rupees by posing as a godman in Mordabad district.
"A case was lodged against conman Jadeja, his brother-in-law Balaji Bhai and few others on June 8 for duping over Rs 1.91 crore from 317 members of Bhaatu tribe in Moradabad district," a home department official said.
This is the second case lodged against Jadeja in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, a case was lodged against him, his wife Neetu and eight others on June 6 for duping tribals in Mathura district, officials said.
The officials said on June 8 president of Bhaatu Sangh, Roshan Singh, lodged a written complaint that in January this year Jadeja's brother-in-law Balaji Bhai, who runs a hotel in Sarkjhej in Ahmedabad, visited Moradabad district.
Singh claimed that during his visit Balaji propagated that Jadeja was blessed by a goddess and had powers that could make members of Bhaatu tribe rich. Duped by the publicity, a large number of people from Moradabad, Kanpur, Agra, Ghaziabad and Lakhimpur deposited money with Jadeja's agents.
He alleged that in all, 317 people were duped to the tune of Rs 1.91 crore. The Home department officials said that based on the complaint, a case was lodged against Jadeja, Balaji, Himmat Singh, Deepu, Shaitaan Singh, Hanuman Bhai, Ganpat Bhai, Kesho and others.
