The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee has suspended a senior leader and former MLA for indulging in anti-party activities, a party spokesman said here today.
"Former MLA Afsar U Ahmad of Siddharth Nagar has been suspended by the disciplinary committee for indulging in anti-party activities and a show cause notice has been issued to him," party spokesman Dwijendra Tripathi said.
Ahmad has been asked to submit his reply in 10 days, he said.
"Ahmad has been accused of making unnecessary comments against Jagdambika Pal, the Member of Parliament from Doomariyaganj," Tripathi said.
By-election to Doomariyaganj assembly seat, which fell vacant following demise of sitting BSP MLA Taufiq Ahmad, is scheduled to be held this month.
