Prominent Shia cleric Kalbe Jawad has called for a fast in protest against Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi's three-day "harmony fast" in Ahmedabad last week.
Apart from people from the Muslim community, non-Muslim religious leaders including Swami Agnivesh are scheduled to attend the gathering at the historic Asfi Imambara on Friday evening.
He said the decision to hold the fast was for peace in the country.
Addressing Friday prayer at the Imambara Kalbe Jawad, who is also Imam-e-Juma, said his fast was against communal forces in the country.
Jawad said Friday's fast being observed by peace loving people of both Hindu and Muslim communities was an indication that terror would no longer be tolerated.
He said Modi's three-day fast was misleading and that by holding such fast his crime against the Muslim community would not be exonerated.
Tight security arrangement has been made around the Imambara which is a major tourist spot in the city.
