UP Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav, who is also chief minister, on Wednesday suspended MLA Mahendra Kumar Singh alias Jheen Babu from the party for his alleged involvement in a sex racket in Goa.

Two other SP MLAs — Radheyshyam Jaiswal and Ramlal Akela — have also been suspended for anti-party activities.

SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhury in a statement said that show cause notice had been issued to Jheen Babu, Sevta (in Sitapur district) MLA, in connection with the Goa sex scandal. He was nabbed in a police raid at a hotel in Goa’s Panaji district.

Six persons were also arrested with the MLA. Six women attached to a local bar were found in the rooms occupied by the MLA and his accomplices. The Goa police had taken the MLA and the rest on five-day remand.

Akhilesh Yadav also suspended Bachrawan (Rae Bareli) MLA Ram Lal Akela for his supposed involvement in demolishing a house belonging to a doctor. The house had been brought down to capture the prime land on the highway. Akela’s son Vikrant Akela, who was district president of the Lohia Vahini (named after social leader Ram Manohar Lohia), has expelled from the party. The minority community is peeved with Akela on the matter.

While suspending Radheshyam Jaiswal from the party, the chief minister also expelled his son Shailendra Jaiswal from the SP for anti-party activities.
