Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Wednesday said the Stand Up India scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday was a political gimmick.

“If the PM is concerned about the welfare of the scheduled castes and schedule tribes, he should fill up the reserved posts lying vacant in government departments on priority basis. The contracts floated by the government departments should also be reserved for the Dalits,” she said in a statement.

“The NDA government has lost the confidence of the people due to a casteist and communal agenda. To divert the attention of the people, the government is resorting to political drama and schemes like Stand Up India,” Mayawati claimed.

Modi had launched the scheme which facilitates bank loans between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 1 crore to SC, ST and women borrowers setting up greenfield enterprises in the non-farm sector.
