Sunil Shastri, son of former Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri today returned to the Congress expressing faith in the leadership of party chief Sonia Gandhi.
Talking to reporters here, Shastri said that he had expressed his desire to return to the Congress and had written a letter to Sonia Gandhi in January this year.
"Congress is the only party, which can keep the country united and ensure its all round development," Shastri said adding that it was like a homecoming for him after 11 years.
Shastri, had quit the Congress to join BJP in 1998 after some differences with the then party president Sitaram Kesari.
Four years ago Shastri floated his own Jai Jawan Jai Kisan party on the principles of his father.
"I am returning as a simple worker and would work towards strengthening the party for making Rahul Gandhi's mission 2012 a success," Shastri said .
Welcoming him into the party fold, UPCC president, Rita Bahuguna Joshi said that his return was unconditional and he would work to strengthen the party.
Several other leaders and workers from BSP also joined the Congress.
