A circle officer (CO), suspended from his post on Monday, has accused his seniors of harassing him for refusing to drop names of four accused, said to be close to the ruling government, in a dowry case in Etah.
The CO said he was deprived of three-months’ salary after he refused to give in despite pressure mounted by the SSP.
“My requests for an impartial inquiry into the case have fallen on deaf ears of senior officials, including the DGP and political bosses,” said VK Sharma. He addressed the media in Bulandshahr on Sunday demanding stern action against SSP Ajay Mohan Sharma.
“I was serving as the CO of Sadar area, a stronghold of Samajwadi Party, in Etah. SP MLA from Aliganj Rameshwar Singh and his brother Jugander Singh, who is a zila panchayat president and a close relative of SP leader Ramgopal Yadav, pressurised me to drop the names of four accused in a dowry case that I was investigating,” he said.
“On their call, Ajay Mohan allegedly asked me to ‘manage things’ as per the wish of political bosses but I refused to cower. After this, my harassment begun,” the CO said.
He said he was granted just three days’ leave after suffering a fracture in an accident on the directions of the SSP. In the meantime he was transferred to Aligarh where he joined on October 19.
VK Sharma has claimed to have knocked every door including that of the DGP and the chief minister but none paid heed. He also said that the DGP had asked him for kickbacks. He levelled similar allegations against the SSP.
The DGP office in Lucknow termed allegations as baseless.
IG (law and order), BP Singh said: “Sharma was earlier transferred from Fatehgarh to Moradabad on the charge of misbehaviour with senior police officers on August 6.”
The BJP has demanded removal of DGP AC Sharma.
UP BJP chief Laxmikant Bajpai said: “A DGP facing a serious charge should be immediately removed from the post. Confirming Sharma’s suspension, principal secretary RM Srivastava said, “An inquiry has been ordered into the matter.”
