The government railway police (GRP) arrested two jawans of the Border Security force(BSF) for molesting a woman co-passenger in third AC compartment of a moving train on Monday.
The duo was arrested at Mughalsarai railway station after the woman, travelling in Sealdah Rajdhani Express, lodged a complaint on the railway helpline number.
The arrested jawans have been identified as Vijay Pal of 85 battalion and Sandeep Kumar of 158 battalion posted in Murshidabad and Tripura respectively.
Police said that the incident took place at 12.10 am on Monday when the train, heading for Sealdah (West Bengal), had left Kanpur station.
In the telephonic complaint, the woman told the GRP that the men were misbehaving with all the passengers in B-6 coach of the train and molested them after the train left Kanpur.
“Since the train has no stoppages between Kanpur and Mughalsarai, a team of GRP cops entered the coach at Mughalsarai.
After taking a written complaint from the woman, the two jawans were arrested,” director general of police (railway) Rizwan Ahmad told HT. The arrests were made on Monday afternoon.
Ahmad said that the commandants of both the BSF personal had been informed and the case was being investigated. “A case of molestation has been lodged against the two and they have been sent to jail,” he added.
