Two women were found brutally murdered in a house in Triveninagar locality under the Aliganj police station on Sunday afternoon.

Bodies of one Mahira, 35, and one Rekha, 36, were found in a pool of blood. Their throats had been slit with sharp-edged weapons, said police.

Two youths, Tanveer and Surendra -- residents of Daliganj -- who were found in the house by neighbours, were arrested from the spot.

Cops were investigating the case, considering the duo as prime suspects.

Though the youths denied any involvement in the crime, they, however, could not explain their presence in the house.

Earlier, residents in the neighbourhood were surprised to see some red liquid flowing out of the house through an open drain near the gate.

Sensing it was blood, they informed the police. As locals tried to enter the house, they saw the two youths trying to escape. The duo was, however, locked inside by neighbours till the police came to the spot.

When cops entered the house, Mahira’s body was found in the bedroom while Rekha’s body was found in the bathroom. Bangles of both the women were broken which indicated that both gave strong resistance to the assailants.

The house belongs to one Ramkumar Saini who had rented it to Anil Kumar, a contractual sanitation worker at King George’s Medical University. Anil had told a few people that Mahira was his wife and they lived with son Aman.

Neighbours said Rekha and the two youths were not strangers, as they used to visit the house frequently in Anil’s absence.

“Surendra had consumed liquor,” said SSP JR Goud.

During primary investigation, cops found that buttons of Surendra’s shirt were scattered in the bathroom. The deceased’s broken bangles also suggested that they had a fight before being killed.

The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained till last reports came in.
