lucknow Updated: May 09, 2007 00:36 IST

Special Task Force (STF) sleuths rescued Mohit Chandani (16), a businessman’s son, at Ganeshpur village, about 45 kilometres from Lucknow, on Tuesday after killing two of his abductors in a 40-minute encounter. Two others, also involved in the abduction, are still at large.

Mohit was kidnapped on May 1 and a ransom demand of Rs 50 lakh was made.

“I just want to pray and take some rest,” Mohit said after he was rescued. Weeping with joy, Mohit’s mother Kanchan said “I had full faith in the almighty.”

Director General of Police GL Sharma said the two slain abductors were identified as Yogendra Singh alias Rajesh of Anand Mata Mandir Road, Daulatganj, Chowk (Lucknow) and Rinku of Nandpur locality in Sector C Aliganj (also in Lucknow). Both were in their mid-20s and “new to crime.”

Mohit, a student of Class X, was abducted when he was going to school with his father Purshottam.

The state government has announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for the STF team. Besides, the DGP will also give the team Rs 20,000 and the Adarsh Vyapar Mandal Rs 21,000.
